Welcome to RomanDays!

Roman Days is the recreation of the culture and life of Rome. We are all amateur historians and living history enthusiasts who recreate the military and civilians from across the Roman Republic and Empire, from the founding of Rome to the fall. We depict soldiers, tavern owners, senators, Celts, doctors, Greeks, lawyers, gladiators, patricians and plebians, and many other groups from this wide culture. All of our clothing, armor, food, tents, weapons, pottery, jewelery, glass, and other items are researched and recreated as closely as possible to the original methods and appearance. Our events are for everyone and we encourage questions, learning and entertainment.

Roman Days appeals to many types of people, but we think that students of Latin and history can learn a great deal by visiting and interacting with us.

The first Roman Days was the creation of Matthew Amt, one of the first Roman reenactors in North AmericaOur Legio XX which he founded and still leads continues these events each year. In the real world we are computer people, librarians, soldiers, cartographers, managers and academics who all have had a long interest in Rome and the classical world.

Newer Roman reenactment groups have started their own Roman Days events, but the names of the websites vary considerably, so we established this site to help people find us and to promote every event.

The Roman Days east (Washington DC area) event of Legio XX is the first weekend in June, so will be June 3-4 in 2006, but may be extended to include Friday, June 2. Held at Marietta Mansion, we have soldiers, the only authentic leather military tent in North America, a Pompeiian tavern, soldierly sports, actors, gladiators, Celts, a fashion show, and this time perhaps a Roman theater! Roman and Celtic groups from across the US and Canada attend.
Besides Legio XX, there is Legio XXX from Canada, Legio XIV from West Virginia, Legio XXIV from Pennsylvania, and Legio III from Atlanta, all dedicated and committed to historical accuracy. 14th Legion
